Introduction Traced Good

September 27th, 2011 — 6:44am

TRACED GOOD tells the story of an irrisistible passion for genuine

products made of pure and eco-tanned materials Leather and Cashmir,

combined with design and development of accessories manufactured

traditionally, hand-made and on a Fair Trade base.

TRACED GOOD found its production area in the first place in Nepal -

Kathmandu. Far away, high in the Himalaya, the FTG Nepal and factory took

me to a village with a 4X4 and the last part we hiked. It took us 7 hours

to come there, and I was amazed by founding the most pure Eco-leather you

can think of! We’ve made already an improvement, by talking to the Head of

the village – describing the full process in detail and founding out the

newest possibilities of vegetable tanning that the Village realize.

Together with the Leather Village and Fair Trade Group Nepal I now work on

designs for TRACED GOOD. Read more and see movies and pictures at

www.tracedgood.com

Currently, I am also very busy working on bags with a new Leather factory

in Chennai with veg tanned leather production methods for designs of

TRACED GOOD bags and scarfs… I am very excited by planning my next visit

to Chennai to see and describe the situation of

the veg tanning process and sources of leather in this area myself ..

With accessiation Clean + Unique (www.cleanunique.org) I work on an

ongoing base on Technical Plans and describing processes and improvement

of the factories, in order to show transparency and set goals to realize

improvement of labour conditions in the long term. I am very glad that

this association exists to share ideas with other designers and to make it

possible for designers to commit to Codes of labour of Fair Wear and

realize small projects locally.

The mission of TRACED GOOD is enabling and embracing a better

understanding of improvement of clean sources and tanning processes of

leather and cashmir origins towards the end-consumer by selling a number

of pure, authentic and fair Men and Women accessories. This will be

realized by manufacturing and selling accessories Fair Trade and with a

well traced production and tanning process.

The vegetable tanned leather used for some accessories of TRACED GOOD is

purely sourced in the Bagmati-Zone of Central Nepal and no chemical

tanning and less waste water is used. The cashmere is sourced in Mongolia

and Nepal and is spun handmade – it takes 4 days to manufacture 1

blanket-scarf.

September 9th, 2011 — 10:49am

The Green Fashion Competition continues. After a very succesfull first edition of the Green Fashion Competition the second editions was lanched during Amsterdam International Fashion Week last July. You can enrol before September 30th.

AIFW and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation initiated The Green Fashion Competition to inspire and encourage a change towards a more sustainable fashion industry. By offering a complete ‘prize pack’ they provide the prize winners with the tools to really start as a fashion business. Besides cash prizes The Green Fashion Competition provides young entrepreneurs with business related workshops, coaching, connection to the AIFW network and a platform during the 16th edition of AIFW.

The first season of The Green Fashion Competition was launched in July 2010 with over 180 entries, from all over the world. After the first selection, 40 remaining participants were invited to participate in a series of workshops. From these 40 finalists the jury selected eight who had a chance to further develop their business plan and present their designs during the “Grand Finale” at AIFW in January 2011. Dutch designer Elsien Gringhuis won the first prize of € 25,000, – and OAT (Shoes that Bloom) came in second and won € 15,000.

Elsien Gringhuis: “I’ve learned a lot from The Green Fashion Competition and the workshops that were held there. That in itself I found to be fantastic. The award itself is a huge boost for my business and gives me the opportunity to launch the production. This is a difficult issue for any designer without capital. “

Fairtrade

May 19th, 2011 — 3:04pm

As we will soon be working under de Fairtrade (Max Havelaar) mark as well with Clean&Unique, we where at the on-board session at the Max Havelaar office beginning of this week.

Max Havelaar is the Dutch name for the in wider Europe known Fairtrade mark. In the Netherlands Max Havelaar is added to the logo. And when the Fairtrade logo is on cotton products it always states certified cotton as in contrast to other Fairtrade products with cotton only the farming process can be Fairtrade certified at this moment.

What is it exactly the Fairtrade mark stands for, and in what way do the workers in developing countries profit from the work of Fairtrade? Continue reading »

Exposition: ROOTS

January 14th, 2011 — 4:32pm

During Amsterdam International Fashion Week exposition ROOTS is taking place in the Charlie + Mary Conceptstore. This exposition takes you along on a journey to the roots of fashion.

The roots of the natural world are extending to the world of fashion. Contemporary developments in fashion are closing the gap between sustainable products beneficial for the environment and a clothing style to be proud of with a metropolitan lifestyle. Recently the parasitical relationship between fashion and nature is finally growing into a symbiosis. Gidi van Maarseveen and Adrian Woods show the merger of the two at the Roots exhibition opening the 21st of january at the sustainable concept store ‘Charlie + Mary’ in Amsterdam. Their unique combination of fashion and still life photography shows an intriguing and contemporary view on the subject.

Charlie + Mary Conceptstore | Sat Jan 22nd 10:00 – 17:00, Mon Jan 24th 13:00 – 18:00, Tue Jan 25th 10:00 – 18:00, Wed Jan 26th 10:00 – 18:00, Thu Jan 27th 10:00 – 18:00, Fri Jan 28th 10:00 – 18:00, Sat Jan 29th 10:00 – 17:00 | Free entrance
